Before adding this service, make sure you are in My Services. All services are added by creating a Rate Card, selecting the correct shipping method, and assigning it to the appropriate partner.
Steps:
From the left panel of the screen, click My Services.
On that page, click Create Rate Card.
Select Port-to-Port Services, select Air.
Name the Rate Card.
Note: An automated name suggestion will appear after selecting the services. You may use the suggested name or enter your own.Click Create Rate Card.
Once these steps are completed, you will have successfully added the Port-to-Port services for Air.
Adding your rates
Air Port-to-Port rates are set by CSV upload rather than by typing lanes into a form.
- Open the Rate Card and download the CSV template. The template is generated for this Rate Card, so download a fresh one whenever you change the card's weight bands.
- Fill it in using a spreadsheet program such as Excel or Google Sheets. One row is one lane.
- Upload the completed file. Connect validates it and reports the rows that need correcting.
For the upload mechanics and the limits that apply to every rate file, see Can I bulk import my rates?.
Note: An upload replaces the Rate Card's rates rather than adding to them. Always upload one complete file containing every lane you want on the card.
Column guide
Lane and carrier columns
| Column | Required | What goes in it |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Yes | Origin airport. |
| Destination | Yes | Destination airport. |
| Carrier XCAC | One of the two | The carrier's XCAC. |
| Carrier IATA | One of the two | The carrier's IATA airline designator. |
| Air Service | Yes | The service the rate applies to. |
| Transit Time | Yes | Whole days. |
| Currency | Yes | The currency the rates and minimum charges are quoted in. |
Name the carrier with either Carrier XCAC or Carrier IATA on each row. Filling in both is rejected, and so is leaving both empty. Most agents keep their files by IATA code, which is why both columns are on the template.
Surcharge columns
| Column | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Security Per Kg Fee | Security charge per kilo. |
| Security Minimum Charge | Minimum security charge. |
| Fuel Per Kg Fee | Fuel charge per kilo. |
| Fuel Minimum Charge | Minimum fuel charge. |
| Screening Per Kg Fee | Screening charge per kilo. |
| Screening Minimum Charge | Minimum screening charge. |
| Per Kg Air Minimum Charge | Minimum charge for the air freight itself. |
Weight band columns
The band columns come from the weight bands the Rate Card declares, so they are not a fixed list. Each band is named for the weight it stops at: the lowest is Minus <next floor> kg and every band above it is Plus <its own floor> kg.
A card left on the standard floors of 0, 45, 100, 300, 500 and 1000 produces the six columns Connect has always used:
Minus 45 kg, Plus 45 kg, Plus 100 kg, Plus 300 kg, Plus 500 kg, Plus 1000 kg
A card that declares its own floors produces its own column names on the same pattern. If you upload a file carrying a band column the Rate Card no longer has, the file is rejected rather than the column being ignored, so download a fresh template after changing bands.
Density banded rates
Rate Cards using density banded air rates carry one further column, Weight Ratio, placed straight after Destination. It states the volumetric ratio for the lane.
The column and the setting have to agree. Uploading a file without Weight Ratio to a density banded card is rejected, and so is uploading a file that has the column to a card that is not density banded.
Optional descriptive columns
Promo Code, Service Code, TSA Status and Aircraft Model carry reference information about the rate and can be left empty.
